You’ve worked for a company for 30 years. You get a new supervisor, who every day demands more and more, criticizes more and more, gives you more and more work to do without giving you the time, support and resources to get it all done. Then you come in to work one day and your boss tells you that your performance is not acceptable, you’re not performing at a high-level, you’re not meeting expectations, and he/she wants you to exceed expectations, without giving you any sort of guidance and direction as to how you’re supposed to do that and in spite of the fact that you’ve been doing the same job for 20 years with no complaints from any prior supervisors. Your boss then presents you with a performance improvement plan, gives you 90 days to basically get your act together and perform to his/her expectations or you’re gonna lose your job, lose your pension, lose your retirement, lose your dignity, lose your self-respect, lose everything. But he/she treats everybody on your team this way. Without regard to age, race, gender, religion, nationality or any other sort of defining characteristic or immutable trait. What do you do?
All things being equal there’s nothing you can do when you’re faced with the decision to either resign or retire and collect your pension and go off into the sunset or fight through proper proper channels this injustice and probably wind up getting fired and losing everything because of the way the retirement/pension plan is set up.
The law in Florida does not protect you, you are at your bosses mercy in the above situation. Take the retirement and get the H**L out of there!
P.S: Don’t forget to vote for someone next time who just might change the law to a more reasonable and sensible result with respect to the above described situation. Only through voting for the right people can these idiotic laws ever change!
